Patty McManus-Huber of Nash's Organic Produce spoke to our group regarding current farmland issues. Friends of the Field continues their efforts of raising funds to buy develop rights to farmland to protect local farmland. Their current focus is 50 acres off of Finn Hall Road. The Dungeness area is their primary focus but they are also considering the Joyce area. We had 16 people in attendance with 4 new faces. The most immediate impact we can have to support farmland is to buy vegetables thru the local farmers market. Nash's Organic Store in Dungeness is open 6 days per week. Port Angeles farmers market is open all year. Kurt reports that the logo is being developed by David & Kathy and is starting to take shape. Sid is continuing to work on energy saving tips. Ann has done research on carbon footprint issues & we will post on our site. Sid will talk to the WA State University extension director about speaking to our group as well as PUD for energy saving ideas & alternative energy sources. WA State University extension will be providing a course on growing organic January thru April 2008 on Tuesday nights at the local Grange. Cost is $110. We will be posting additional info for those who are interested.
