1/8/08 Meeting

We had a good turnout for the first meeting of the year & the last meeting up in the barn (for now).
Local meetings and events were disussed.

On Sunday, 1/13/08, there is a regional network meeting od Sustainable Communities All Over Puget Sound, SCALLOPS, in Port Hadlock. http://scallops.sustainableballard.org/
Sid will attend to represent LAST. Others are welcome to join Sid in the trip over to PH. Sid will be leaving the barn at 9:15 AM. The event is from 10AM to 3PM and is a potluck lunch.
This is the 4th SCALLOPS event and will be attended by up to 40-50 sustainable community organizations like LAST.

Making It Last is coming up March 21 & 22 at Peninsula College. We should have a table & a banner & a presence for this event. Ideas?

Ann reported that the Sustainable Farming class that starts next week will be attended by at least 6 of us. Sid has a call into Curtis Beus to see if others will be allowed to attend. It starts 1/15 and has been moved to PA.

Jack F gave an overview of an excellent presentation by Curtis Beus, Clallam County Director for WSU Extension on where food is from >> Everywhere & Nowhere. Reminds us again how we need to be thinking local on food. See Sid for a copy of the powerpoint presentation.

Other area happenings include:

Paul Hansen is currently collecting signatures to run for Clallam Conservation District Supervisor. The election is February 26, 2008 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Polling places will be the Port of Port Angeles Office located at 338 West Fir Street in Port Angeles, and the Sequim High School Cafeteria located at 601 North Sequim Avenue in Sequim. Lets all support Paul in his run for this important position.

We watched King Corn DVD, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiCRwMMh9k8 is the trailor.
It explains how screwed up our food supply system is and how genetically modified corn is now in everything.

Agenda for the 1/16/08 Sequim Library Meeting (see Events):
1. Plan for a table presence at Making It Last conference, March 21 & 22. We need a LAST banner, brochures and volunteers to be at the table to discuss LAST & our objectives. We need ideas for the table presentation to catch people's attention.
2. How can we better handle/present the LAST Action Planner so it is a more readable & work friendly document? It would be nice to be able to project the whole document on a wall so we can better work on it as group. We will continue to identify priorities and actions that can be/should be implemented first.
3. Sid will get the meeting posted in the meetings section of the local newspapers.
4. Please relay other agenda items to Sid.
