A FUNERAL FOR THE EARTH

A FUNERAL FOR THE EARTH

Estimates for how long we have before it's too late to do anything about the climate change problem range from 10 years, to 20, to 50, all the way to "what problem?".

I say it's already too late, and we have succeeded in killing our planet.

As such, I believe we owe it to Mother Earth to mourn her passing and finally pay her the respect we neglected to give her while she was alive and well.

Given the current lack luster response towards climate change from governments and world leaders, especially in our home country of Canada, I believe we have reached a point of no return. There seems to be no political will from those who have the power to enact policies that will dramatically reduce the effects of climate change on this earth.

This lack of political will has killed the planet.

Therefore...

It is with great sadness and regret that I invite you to attend a Funeral for the Earth, an eco rally on concrete beach where student activists, interested faculty, and community leaders will come together to reflect not only on your personal relationships with the deceased, but on ways in which we might find hope for the future.

If there is hope for the future, and work to be done, then it is best that we get our mourning done now. So please, come out, pay your respects, and listen to stories from those who were close to the deceased.
