A Victory Garden Begins in Friendly Area Neighborhood, Eugene!

On a cold and occasionally damp Saturday, March 29th, friends of Amy Raven and Doug Black assembled at their 2786 Almaden St. home to create a ‘Peak-oil-and-climate-change-busting’ 14’ x 18’ Victory Garden! The gifted group withstood cold rain, a hailstorm, bouts of occasional thirst and hunger, and some very muddy shoes, but the Victory of a final Victory Garden was accomplished!
The project began with the eager stripping and, eventually…flipping of the permaculturally-placed turf(thank you Denise for your resolute words!), with resulting upside-down worms! Over the next 5 ½ hours, ensuing sheet composting, buckets and wheelbarrows of fertile topsoil dumping, and meticulous placement of retaining-wall bricks resulted in the final Victory of the new garden.
The Victory Garden will accomplish different objectives:
*Lessening the need for an increasingly expensive,(freeway)transported, polluting, climate-changing food source
*Increasing the immediate nutritional value for the grower’s diets
*Increasing the healthy soulful, wholistic connection between the grower and their giving food
*Strengthening daily exercise and health
and...
*Connecting neighbors with neighbors to create healthy community-based friendships while gardening, and increasing the social value of the city, exponentially and functionally better than any iPod or TV program

April 22nd, NLC meeting
Jan:
Great on the April 22nd happening! We need traction big time on peak/change, while NAs debate over how to beautify their parks, instead of planning for impending wholesale lifestyle changes. Do you have good contacts within the current NLC? I've gotten close to nowhere starting out with the local rep & committee. Do they have a master list for announcing 4/16 Lerch/Heinberg with? Or just email addresses through the city's NLC page?
