Post Carbon Institute Staff: Vancouver

Julian Darley, Founder and Director
Julian Darley is founder and director of Post Carbon Institute and Global Public Media. He is also author of High Noon for Natural Gas: the New Energy Crisis (2004) and the forthcoming Relocalize Now! Getting Ready for Climate Change and the End of Cheap Oil (forthcoming in 2006) in collaboration with Celine Rich, Dave Room and Richard Heinberg. Julian has an MSc in Environment and Social Research from University of Surrey in the UK, an MA in Journalism and Communications from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in Music & Russian. Julian currently lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Celine Rich, Executive Director
Celine has ben working with Post Carbon Institute and Global Public Media since its inception. She has led community cultural development projects in Vancouver for six years previous to working with Post Carbon Institute. Celine is the co-author of the forthcoming Relocalize Now! Getting Ready for Climate Change and the End of Cheap Oil (forthcoming in 2006) in collaboration with Julian Darley, Dave Room and Richard Heinberg. Celine has a MA in Design for the Environment from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, UK; a BA in Fine Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Canada, and a Certificate of Marketing from Kwantlen College, Canada, 1987.
 

Christina Olsen, Administration Manager
Christina joins us in Vancouver to oversee the day to day administration of the MetaFoundation, Post Carbon Institute and Global Public Media.  She has a degree in environmental studies and anthropology from the University of Victoria and has worked for a variety of environmental organizations, including Television for the Environment in London, England.

 Sarah Smith, Relocalization Network Coordinator

Sarah is a graduate of the University of British Columbia, with an Arts Degree majoring in Music. She was the Chair of the Student Environment Centre (www.ubcsea.ca) and helped organize various programs and projects, including the 2005 Sustainability Conference in conjunction with the Serra Youth Coalition. Sarah is our second Relocalization Network coordinator, working to develop the network and provide support and resources for existing Local Post Carbon Groups and affiliates.

Shelby Tay, Relocalization Network Coordinator
Shelby is a fourth year environmental science student at the University of British Columbia. She will be establishing a communication network amongst new and existing local Post Carbon groups and developing lines of communication with all members of the Relocalization Network.

Liz McDowell, Development Coordinator
Liz spearheards Post Carbon Institute's fundraising efforts. She works to secure the financial resources necessary to implement Post Carbon's ambitious plans for the future and acts as the liaison to our board of directors. Liz holds a degree in Business and International Development Studies from McGill University in Montreal. While in Montreal, she worked as the Project Coordinator for the Sustainable McGill Project. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Sierra Youth Coalition.

 Tara Irwin, UBC Energy Farm Program Coordinator

Tara is from Alberta and went to the University of Alberta where she completed her undergrad degree in Environmental Sciences, with a major in the Human Dimension of Environmental Sciences. Tara has worked on a variety of environmental initiatives in Alberta, from coordinating the campus community garden to helping initiate an environmental news radio program

Laura Bonenfant, Communications Coordinator
Laura is the Communications Coordinator at Post Carbon Institute, with responsibilities ranging from managing the monthly newsletter, updating the website, creating communication materials and implementing an overall communications strategy for the Institute. Laura holds a degree in International Development and Environmental Science from McGill University in Montreal.  

 James Stubbs, Adminstrations Coordinator

James graduated from Capilano College in North Vancouver with a Diploma in Jazz Guitar and an Advanced Certificate in Arts and Entertainment Management.

James worked in communications and design in Toronto until returning to the west coast to operate a consultancy for small business and not-for-profits. James joined the Post Carbon team in April 2006.
