OPEN Meeting of Sustainable Burlington Citizens Group.
Come out and get to know other relocalizers in town, learn about our interests and add to our understanding of climate chaos/energy scarcity.
Relocalizing is a positive response to an amazing confluence of climate, resource and political events, unforeseen in the last 100 years. It is telling that there was a sell-out crowd last Saturday at the Royal Botanical Garden's lecture on Thriving in Challenging Times, presented by environmentalists Cam and Michelle Mather, off-grid publishers of energy books and dvds. www.aztext.com
It is at times sobering to confront the combined issues of climate upset, energy scarcity, water quality, air quality, etc. One thing is clear: we will benefit greatly from building community spirit and resources in our own neighbourhoods.
To that end, this meeting will focus on
- a discussion to debrief some of the implications of the RBG talk (if you were not present, see a similar talk at http://globalpublicmedia.com/julian_darley_relocalize_now)
- get started on local actions to inform, learn, experiment with living in a post-carbon world. I have several specific ideas for SB that I hope to get a discussion on.
- writing a column for Burlington for The Hammer, the Hamilton progressive e-newspaper
- a contact person for Environment Halton, which is in the process of re-inventing itself
- the Sustainable Burlington logo
- hosting the Escape From Suburbia premier here in Burlington
- neighbourhood phone trees
- call/write elected officials: a steady progress of news bullets coming at them from many quarters
- Sustainable Lifestyles Symposium and Teach-In
- workshop on how to upgrade the house for energy scarcity
- see if neighbourhood groups are feasible to expand the work of Sustainable Burlington.
Come out and find your way on this new low energy pathway to the future. Please RSVP by email to burlingtoncan.relocalize.net so we can prepare adequate space.
