Delivered Efficiency of the Electric Grid

I recently had a chance to try to discuss renewable energy power
production in the CT River Valley. I came away from the discussion
realizing that it was very difficult to get people to focus on real
issues. So a new "Energy Position Paper" was prepared that has been attached.
Other papers can be viewed and copied at greendiamondsystems.com. Look for the StepItUpPapers link.
The crucial finding was that the grid is massively inefficient and
unnecessary if we are serious about reversing climate change. Science
Mag. recently provided an energy input/output graph that shows that
119% of the the gross energy from coal used for generating power is
lost on the grid. A detailed analysis of what this really means and
where these losses may be coming from is included.
No more power plants should be allowed to be built anywhere in the
world that are not both cogeneration systems and easily modulated to
reduce the likelihood of operation without an attached load.
