Community Sustained Agriculture- Delivered to your door!

Community Sustained Agriculture (CSA) is growing, quite literally, here in Boise. Imagine local, organic farms producing and thriving according to the seasons and months and doing it all in a sustainable way. Not only is it a viable option for farming locally, but they will even deliver to your doorstep once a week for the entire growing season. What a way to live consciously, healthy, and with the earth and seasons. While it's too late for the 2007 season, 2008 will be quickly upon us. Check out these local CSA's websites:

When you think about how far our food comes, even in the peak of summer, it still takes plenty of transportation and carbon to make it to our kitchens. We can cut down on the use of petrolium products and help create sustainable farming at the same time. It's also a great alternative for those who are living car-free and lite, as they deliver. There are often plenty of veggies and fruits to be canned for the winter too. CSA's rock!

10 Small things ANYONE can do that will make a difference

Okay, here is my mini push to get everyone environmentally aware. I still have friends that aren't recycling, but I find when they see how easy it can be they take more interest. This list is for anyone, not just the green-converts. Here is a quick list of 10 things (easy things) we can do day to day that really make a difference. The mayor of New York is trying to get everyone there on board too. I don't know him or his politics, but these are good ideas. I also included the website from which the list came from. Good story, take a read.

1. Switch to ENERGY STAR® qualified Compact Fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
2. Buy ENERGY STAR® appliances.
3. Don’t air condition an empty room
4. Unplug chargers and appliances when not in use.
5. Switch to a green energy provider. (Is there one in Idaho? Or do I need to create my own solar/wind situation?)
6. Walk or take public transportation. I like riding my bike.
7. Recycle your glass, metal, paper and plastic.
8. Bring your own cloth bag to the grocery store.
9. Use green cleaning products. (Which ones have you found that aren't expensive and work well?)
10. Switch to paperless bank statements and online bill paying.

Hello Boise SLC!

Hi, My name is Megan and I've just joined the BSLC. I look forward to getting involved with our community to make this city and world a better and greener place to be. I'm currently going "car-lite" and am super in to compost, vermi-compost, and alternative birthing choices for women and families. I'm a doula too. I'm so glad there are at least 27 others here in Boise that are interested and focused on making smart environmental choices. I know that as a collective we can get a lot done and educate the masses about the joys of living green.
