IMPORTANT EVENT SEPTEMBER 6, 7 PM AT TRINITY CATHEDRAL 2620 CAPTOPL AVE.

Come to learn and discuss what WE CAN DO in Sacramento to address global warming
Thurs, Sept 6 - 7-9pm - Trinity Cathedral - 2620 Capitol Ave

Climate change is the most serious issue facing humanity and the planet.

The Climate Change Roadshow is an opportunity to learn more about what we can do to effect positive change.

Therapists for Social Responsibility (TSR) is hosting this important local event.

Kelly Tudhope, an environmental activist from New Zealand, will be leading the discussion.

These multi-media presentations will help communities to understand our role in a "climate changed" world and empower us with a renewed sense of commitment to the actions required to address global warming.
The roadshow aims to:

Catalyze and support a dynamic and strong public movement to address climate change
Address the hopelessness, apathy and despair that many people feel
Unveil false and business-as-usual "solutions"
Raise awareness and inspire political action towards real solutions
Provide resources for the many things that we can all do to turn the situation around

Presentation and Discussion will include:

multi-media presentation
discussion focused on real solutions that acknowledge the full scope of what's ahead
focus on the importance of direct democracy and grassroots involvement

among many others. You won't want to miss these inspiring speakers and talented performers!

SolFest is the world’s premier two-day celebration of renewable energy and sustainable living. Since SolFest was born in 1996 over 100,000 people have learned how to change the world while having fun. Each summer SolFest transforms the rural hamlet of Hopland, California, into the global epicenter of green living. Our main stage, family stage, and six workshop tents are filled with world-renowned speakers, musicians and artists, offering keynotes, panels, performances, and over fifty one-hour workshops. The leading developers and distributors of green products and services are here too, sponsoring and exhibiting in hundreds of booths and displays that fill our beautifully landscaped grounds for these two magical days.

SolFest is unique in many ways. It is a learning opportunity second to none. It is a celebration like no other. And it is a magnet for the best and brightest from around the country and the world, who get together every year to exchange ideas, network, and recharge their intellectual and emotional batteries for the year ahead.

SolFest is not a temporary encampment, nor is it a weekend-long set-up in a convention hall. The Solar Living Institute’s home, the Solar Living Center, is a unique solar-powered permaculture site. Our year-round commitment to demonstrating to and educating the public embody the principles of SolFest. This gives attendees and sponsors alike a uniquely powerful understanding of the possibilities of renewable energy, green building and more. The Solar Living Institute and SolFest’s many sponsors, supporters and volunteers, by “walking the talk” 365 days a year, bring to life our three part goal: Demonstrate, Educate, Activate.

SolFest is indeed the Greenest Show on Earth!

All You Need Is Lovins: A conversation with energy guru Amory Lovins

I remember Matthew blogging a little about Amory a while back. I saw this in Grist, which is a great weekly enviro-news-e-mail I would defintely suggest because its brief and FUNNY. Check it out: http://www.grist.org/news/maindish/2007/07/26/lovins/index.html?source=w... -Jeff

You Tube channel and World Watch Book

Hello All,

Good to meet those of you who I hadn't met until last night. Im excited as we move forward to both influence community (in)action and continue with my own evolution towards a smaller eco-footprint. In addition to the great resources listed earlier today/last night I have a couple more I'll through out there..

I mentioned that there is a 'channel' on You Tube on Peak Oil...they interview some interesting people, Richard Heinberg among other...offer tips on green living...etc. Worth a look. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=peakmoment

For those of you interested in a more global view on how sustainability and urban areas are co-existing please check out World Watch Institute's: State of the World 2007, Our Urban Future. (2008 will mark the first time that the human population is a urban species with more than 50 percent of us living in cities....this book gives case studies of what other cities around the world have done on different topics: green transport, urban farming, solar power cities etc.) http://www.worldwatch.org/

Sacramento Earth Day

I attended Earth Day at CSUS this last Sunday....let me give everyone a brief description of what went down.

Relocalize Sacramento (formerly: Sustainable Sacramento) had a booth where they were giving away plants for gardens...and passing out literaure on Oil Depletion, etc. Nice people. Seems like there was a lot of overlap with our group...maybe we should consider cooperating some how. they are. www.relocalizesacramento.org

Also there was a community gardening booth put on by Sacramento Area Community Garden Coalition. They may contact at 916 508-6025 or sacgc@ulink.net They're the people behind getting the front yard garden passed (took them 3 years i guess) there is also a grand opening of the fremont community garden on Sat, June 9th at 14 and Q from 10-2. plots are already full but there is a waiting list...

Also for those wondering the Sustainability Panel that was supposed to happen on the day before, never did happen.

Good turn out though...anyone else go? or make any good connections?
