Meeting on Bristol City Council’s waste management strategy

This meeting will mainly be a presentation, forty minutes or so, explaining the current waste management issues for Bristol and options for the future. Then there will be discussion and explanation of how to complete the consultation survey. A consulting firm is running this consultation on behalf of the Council, and they are meeting with groups like ours across the City to find out what people think. Everyone welcome. It is at the Friend Meeting House on Hampton Road (opposite the Clyde Arms). Please bring a couple of quid for room hire - though we hope that BCC will fund the room this time in which case we will use any donations to cover printing costs for Farmers Market publicity etc.

Catastrophe: Man, Nature & Climate Change with Elizabeth Kolbert

Lyceum II Lecture: Field Notes From a Catastrophe: Man, Nature & Climate Change. An Evening with Elizabeth Kolbert.
This year's Lyceum II lecturer Elizabeth Kolbert traveled from Alaska to Greenland, and visited top scientists, to get to the heart of the debate over global warming. Her three-part series on climate change, which appeared in The New Yorker in 2005, brings the environment into the consciousness of the American people and asks what, if anything, can be done, and how we can save our planet. She explains the science and the studies, draws frightening parallels to lost ancient civilizations, unpacks the politics, and presents the personal tales of those who are being affected most – the people who make their homes near the poles and, in an eerie foreshadowing, are watching their worlds disappear.

Elizabeth Kolbert has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1999. She has written dozens of pieces for the magazine.
