Chuck Hopkins, a UN University Chair on Education for Sustainable Development

Education is essential in moving societies toward a more sustainable
future. Chuck Hopkins, a UN University Chair on Education for
Sustainable Development, looks at education's roles in such a future
by addressing each of the four thrusts of the United Nations Decade of
Education for a more sustainable future: (1) improving access and
retention in basic education, (2) reorienting existing education to
address sustainability, (3) improving public understanding and
awareness of sustainability, and (4) providing training. Each of
these four provides special challenges and opportunities in North
America and around the world as societies strive to create locally
relevant and culturally appropriate education programs that address
the local environmental, social, and economic contexts. Hopkins gives
examples from cultures around the world. He illustrates the wide
range of sustainability problems of both the poor and the wealthy.

Presenter
Charles (Chuck) Hopkins is a United Nations University Chair on
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the UNESCO Chair on
Reorienting Teacher Education to Address Sustainability at York
University in Toronto, Canada. He is a leader in environmental
education and the nascent field of ESD and speaks to organizations
around the world.

 A small group of caring souls, provides a container for healthy, holistic process

Process:
 Using the process called, Appreciative Inquiry, we will focus on the values and strengths we have brought to the best times of our
lives. From that awareness, we will turn & look at our futures & begin to look at our possibilities in new ways.
