David Korten, author of The Great Turning, gives a free public lecture titled "Navigating the Turn to Earth Community" at 7 p.m. at the Quimper Universalist Unitarian Fellowship, 2333 San Juan, Port Townsend. Donations are appreciated.

David Korten is co-founder and board chair of the Positive Futures Network, the publisher of YES! magazine. He writes, "Climate change, financial meltdown, and peak oil will devastate those segments of the ecomony dependent on oil subsidies and stable global supply lines. These are no longer future issues. A dramatic restructuring of the way we live, including a return to local food and energy self-reliance, has become an imperative."

Jennifer Gray, one of the pioneers of the Transition Town movement in the UK, will give an informative and inspiring talk on how the Transition model can work to effectively engage a community in tackling the challenges of Peak Oil and climate change. The Transition Movement is a practical, positive and inclusive process that is being used by communities all over the world to facilitate the creation of vibrant and resilient communities.

Also, Pamela Gray will give a brief overview of the Transition Network and how they are building partnerships in the US to make the movement stronger. And we’ll talk about what’s been happening with the Transition movement right here in Cotati.

Northeast Organic Farmers Association of New York is coming to Saratoga Springs' City Center for a three-day event! I went to the NOFA-VT winter conference two years ago and it was phenomenal. This is a great chance to meet people who have forgotten more about sustainability than I'll ever know. Workshops, presentations, keynote speakers, trade show booths, organic buffets (with vegetarian and vegan options), music, kids events...
