LAST Action Planner Meeting, etc.Submitted Mon, 2008-01-21 10:05 — Sidroney We will continue working on the LAST Action Planner in conjunction with developing specific handout sheets for the Making It Last! event that is coming up March 21 & 22 at Peninsula College. Our table for this event will be discussed. Also, for Local Farms - Healthy Kids Bill -- Call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to let the 24th District legislators know that you support the Local Farms- Healthy Kids Bill to get local food into the local schools. A SCALLOPS member reported the following: A carbon tax is one of two ways for dealing with the problem of greenhouse gas emissions through government action, the other being the cap-and-trade system. Her bill proposes a tax that would channel money into a state fund that would be used to support the development of non-carbon or low-carbon energy sources and technologies. It is true that companies would pass the tax through to consumers in the form of higher energy prices, but the new energy sources and techologies eventually will cause the tax to fade away as CO2 emissions are greatly reduced or eliminated. We have just e-mailed her to show support for her courage in introducing a controversial bill. Please consider sending her an e-mail too if you want to support this effort (chase.maralyn@leg.wa.gov).
