Downtown Together: Event II; Making Downtown WorkSubmitted Sat, 2008-03-29 20:01 — Sundog Please Forward: DOWNTOWN TOGETHER![with peaking of oil supply, how do you really want it??? How about a permaculture site with raised beds and bio-swales in Aster's Pit?] You are invited to Help Plan Our Downtown in a series of four events that are citizen driven. Speak up, network, plan and present your ideas in this new approach to revitalizing downtown Citizens for Public Accountability in association with the City of Eugene, Davis’, the Eugene Weekly, Friends of Eugene, HELIOS, the Horsehead, Jameson, the KIVA, and Sundance invites you to participate in a citizen initiated process for the revitalization of Eugene's Downtown. Event I: You Tell Us! - A Public Forum Tuesday, April 1, at 7 PM Fenario Gallery, 881 Willamette, Eugene · First, speak up publicly about your ideas for downtown for 3 to 5 minutes and hear the thoughts of others. Then network with others who share your interests and form working groups to advance your ideas, business proposals and goals. Join us after the event for a Downtown Re-Birthday with live music and refreshments Event II: Making Downtown Work Wednesday, April 9, at 7 PM WOW Hall 291 West 8th at Lincoln Experts in various fields will help provide a "tool kit" for creating a downtown revival. Facilitated by Mayor Kitty Piercy; Working groups formed at the previous April 1 event report on their progress, followed by an additional opportunity to network and refreshments. EVENT III: The Project Fair! Saturday, April 26 12-5 PM, Tango Center 194 W. Broadway · Mix planning, politics and fun at this exciting all-day happening. Booths will display the projects developed by groups formed in the previous meetings, and from others in the community. Stroll about or participate in scheduled tours and presentations. Entertainment, food and celebrity appearances. Event IV: Putting It All Together Tuesday, April 29 at 7 PM WOW Hall 291 West 8th at Lincoln · Help put these projects on the map! Identify potential opportunities and projects for Downtown Eugene as suggested priorities for action and investment by the City government. Conclusions and plans arrived at this evening will be presented to the City Council with a request for serious consideration in future revitalization planning for Downtown. Join us afterward for the first annual Downtown Actualization Party! Conduct Your Own Water Quality MonitoringSubmitted Mon, 2008-03-17 13:35 — Nik HAPPENING Watershed councils offers free workshops The Coastal Watershed Council is offering a free Water Quality Workshop Series with hands-on training on "Conduct Your Own Water Quality Monitoring." The first class is 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday in Salinas. Additional classes in the series are April 2 and 9. The workshop series is for farmers, growers, ranchers and others from the Central Coast agricultural community. The series is RWQCB approved for 12 hours Water Quality Education Credit. Weekend Series Permaculture Design Course in Columbus, OhioSubmitted Thu, 2007-12-13 11:01 — Keith Johnson February 22-24, Feb. 29-March 2, March 14-16, 28-30, April 11-13, 2008 “Help green the city and prepare for climate change. Build networks of support and empower yourself with the skills of ecological design as we search for the roots of permanent culture” Description: Over five weekends (Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays), we will present the permaculture design curriculum with special emphasis on urban applications, strategies for changing climate and building local networks of support. The class will implement at least one of the design projects by rehabilitating an old orchard as a forest garden on the 40-acre campus of the United Methodist Children’s Home in Worthington; helping to move this historic institution back to its agricultural roots and forward to a second century of sustainability. The course is co-sponsored by Simply Living Columbus, and the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, and UMCH. Some work-trade scholarships will be available.
