What Is Live Earth?

Live Earth wil be a legendary music event - 9 concerts, over 150 headlining music acts, 24 hours of music across all 7 continents broadcast to over 2 billion people.

No Canadian city is represented in the 9-city Live Earth line-up, so Global Habitat Festival was established as a "Friends Of Live Earth" event so Canadians can actively participate in the global movement expected from Live Earth.

"By attracting an audience of billions, we hope Live Earth will launch a global campaign giving a critical mass of people around the world the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis. Live Earth will help us reach a tipping point that's needed to move corporations and governments to take decisive action to solve the climate crisis"
- Al Gore

Call for Volunteers

Global Habitat Festival - A Friends Of Live Earth Outdoor Music Festival

This free event is being held on July 7th from 12 noon - 9:00 pm. We will need volunteers from 10:00 am - 10:00 pm. (We are looking for a commitment of about 5 hours.) Robson
Square is the venue - it holds about 500 people at a time, although we
hope that people will come and go throughout the day so that we should
be able to contact about 5,000 people. We have many local bands and
performers booked to participate and the performances will be
interspersed with live feed from the international Live Earth Concert.
We will reserve an area for our sponsors to set up tables.

The volunteer roles we are looking for can be divided into “pre-event roles” and “day of the event” roles.

Pre-event roles include:

  • Entertainment Booking
  • Organize food for volunteers
  • Marketing
  • Volunteer Co-ordination
  • Website & Graphics
  • Merchandising
  • Art Co-ordination
  • Charity Co-ordination
  • Broadcasting Live Earth

Day-of the event roles include:

  • foot traffic control
  • security
  • passing the hat
  • welcoming the talent and providing them with necessary information
  • staffing an event information table
  • helping clean up at the end of the event
  • setting up tables
  • helping move music equipment

Interested volunteers should e-mail contact information to Heather.Harrison@kwantlen.ca or phone Heather Harrison 604 261 4204 or 778 834 4204. Please include the best time for her to call you. She
will call all volunteers to ensure that they will be comfortable with
the role that they will play in making this a successful event. Please be assured that there will be adequate training for the event: An information package will be sent out and a training session will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd (location to be announced) for all volunteers willing to attend.
