The Peak Oil NYC Meetup is the NYC affiliate of the Post Carbon Institute. We hold regular meetings in Manhattan. As Beyond Oil NYC - a project of Sierra Club's NYC group - we are raising awareness that NYC must deal with peak oil as well as climate change. We are working with Councilmember Tony Avella, who has requested the drafting of legislation that would create an energy price task force. We collaborate with other organizations, such as Sierra Club, Neighborhood Energy Network, and Tri-State Food Not Lawns. Our hope is that as enough citizens learn about the necessity for rapid shift to sustainability, leadership will emerge from government, business and civic organizations.
