help needed with school garden

Together with another teacher at the Rosedale SS we are planning on starting a school food garden as well as cleaning up and greening up the garden at the entrance to the school. I would appreciate any advice / plants / materials anyone might have that could help us. If anyone would like to assist with the planning or building any help would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
ange

You may be interested in taking a look at the Seed Savers Network, Byron Bay, home page. They have published a book specifically for setting up gardens in schools.

Hi Ange

Gin Gin State School would be a great school to get in contact with and chat about how they have developed their school garden out there. They would also have some ideas on incorporating it into the curriculum.

Here are some web sites that might also be helpful.

http://www.edibleschoolyard.org/homepage.html
http://www.ncahs.nsw.gov.au/tooty-fruity/

My suggestion would be to involve the local community out there as much as possible and look at different ways you could incorporate the produce grown back into the school tuckshop, cooking activities or for other events as well as of course getting students to take produce home.

While I'm not a garden guru I'd be happy to work with the school to develop ways to incorporate and use the product grown to promote healthy eating.

Good luck with it
Regards
Christine

Hi Christine,
Thanks for the web sites. They look great. Once we get the garden up and going I will give you a yell to see what we can do about promoting the healthy eating side of things.
