FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON LOCAL SUSTAINABILITY TO BE HELD IN GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN
Local Future is hosting the first-of-its-kind International Conference on Peak Oil and Climate Change: Paths to Sustainability, on Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1, at the Calvin College’s Fine Arts Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Many international experts believe that the worldwide production of oil has “peaked” and that the coming decades will bring a decline in the amount of available oil, leading to a global economic, environmental and social crisis unless steps are taken now to plan for the future.
The conference is geared toward helping the general public, business leaders and lawmakers understand how global oil supplies and the burning of petroleum-based fuels for energy has caused sharp rises in gas prices that impact not only our means of transportation, but the price of our food, shelter and well-being.
The conference is designed around four breakout tracks, covering broad topics of energy, food, environment, community, and the economy. Participants will hear from leading professionals and international experts who understand the various symptoms of peak oil and climate change, and have knowledge of how we can overcome the associated economic and environmental challenges that lie ahead by developing sustainable cultures within our local communities.
