Not only is agriculture one of the major consumers of fossil fuels but much of what we eat travels hundreds and thousands of miles from the field to the kitchen and therefore consumer considerable fuel.
Simply moving the filed and table closer to each other can make a considerable reduction in our use of fossil fuel. To me this is where we begin, relocalizing the food supply.
Has anyone calculated how much fossil fuel is used to transport food across the country? How much is used in the production of fertilizers and pesticides?
