New relocalisation group on the Coast

Hi everyone,

There is a new relocalisation group on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia - at Eudlo.

We've had our first meeting and some great ideas came up such as exchanging excess fresh vegies from our own gardens within the group (we have a few permaculturists in the group with their own food gardens), and we are lucky enough to have a member who has access to bulk dried foods, so we can start a bulk buying group.

Lots of other things like; food plants in the town landscape, making the town more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly, one day having a co-operative within the town, and there was also talk of a sustainable building and edible garden planned for the local school.

Looking forward to developing some really good ideas to prepare Eudlo for energy descent and begin to relocalise the town and the community.

Cheers,
Sonya
(Group Coordinator)

Hi Sonya - I love to read about all the stuff you are doing. I would love to meet up with you when I am back in Aus at the end of the month. I am fortunate enough to be living about 1 hour from Rob Hopkins in Totnes and am in process of 'transition' myself - attempting to skill up for power down.
I just did a Forest (edible) Garden course at the Schumaker College near Totnes and am very keen to apply the basic priniciples to my property on the MNC of NSW and Aus in general. It would be great to discuss this and all things connected with transition and sustainability as it relates to Oz.
I will be at Sunshine Beach for a few days at the end of August. It would be great if I could meet up with some of your group - and maybe Andi who is up at Bundy!

delayed response!

Hi Jan, sorry for the delay in piping up here, I've just finally moved into Bundy and had the internet turned on last night! It'd be great to meet you- will you be up Bundy way at all while you're here?

Cheers,

Andi

Hi Jan,

Would love to catch up and hear how things are going in the UK. Please take some photos for us too. Can easily arrange a get together with a few people when you are here. I'm sure Andi would be very keen to hear about your experiences and what you learnt over there.

We started our energy descent action course just last week and we had 20 people turn up - which is excellent considering it was all word of mouth advertising for our trial course.

I hope to get to the UK and the US later next year for a research tour of all that is happening, their successes, their 'what didn't work so well' stories and how things are going down the track.

I'm doing a Master of Communication and plan to do a thesis on this - how we can communicate best with the public about climate change and peak oil.

You'll have to check out the Veggie Village community garden being started at Peregian Beach while you're up here.

See you later this month!
