Peak Moment TV: Presentation DVDs for your community

Janaia Donaldson, Host and Producer of Peak Moment Television, says:

Hi Relocalizers: Here's one way to amplify the awakening in your community -- donate DVDs on important topics to your local public library. A friend in a small Oregon town said that Richard Heinberg's “Peak Oil” presentation DVD is checked out 2 or 3 times A WEEK. Just out are Van Jones’ "Green for All!" and Michelle Long’s "Building a Local Community and Economy." These and other programs available on DVD.

Also: Learn how some early relocalizers approached their community as Jason Bradford and Brian Weller, co-founders of Willits Economic Localization, talk with host Janaia Donaldson in Peak Moment Conversations episodes 94 and 95 online at Peak Moment Television and on Global Public Media (audio and video).

Going Local: Campaigns, Resources & Links

Since several groups in the Network are currently working or have worked on Going Local campaigns, we thought we'd pull together some resources to help other groups find a model that feels right for them. Recently, inspired by the Boulder County Going Local campaign, Paths to a Sustainable Future in Wisconsin started a campaign to increase local self-reliance, known as Live Local Milwaukee.

Check out these resources on Going Local:

Stay tuned next month for more resources that focus on local resiliency!

Post Carbon Cities: Addressing Climate and Energy Uncertainty in Spokane, WA

Downtown Spokane, Wash. With the introduction of its new sustainability strategic planning effort, the city of Spokane in eastern Washington State has become the first city to address climate change and energy uncertainty jointly. Speaking to an overflow crowd at last week's launch, Post Carbon Cities' Daniel Lerch said, "We're entering uncharted territory with world oil production hitting a plateau and atmospheric carbon reaching record levels. Cities need to identify the new risks they face because there isn't any state or federal government agency that's going to do it for them." Spokane is building on a history of sustainability work, but this initiative marks a real step ahead. Their citizen task force will be forming in the next month. Read the press release.

In other news, Post Carbon Cities is honored to be among the Top Ten Websites of 2008, as named by the readership at Planetizen.com. Planetizen is one of our favorite sites, too -- it's widely regarded as the web portal for planners and urbanists of all stripes. Thank you, Planetizen, and everyone who voted for us!

Please, borrow our work to further your own! One of the resources on our website is a collection of slideshows from past presentations, which can be a good source of material for making your own presentations.
