Next event

As far as what we discussed before, I'm fine with the location of the next event (Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream Cafe at the corner of Franklin and Hennepin). The time 6:30pm is fine, although it can be later.

As for what day, it doesn't matter to me.

As for local topics (this is my basic list):

Biking.
Gardening.
Equipment for an emergency (food, water, etc).
Power generation and conservation.

Great, very complete, book

Great, very complete, book about equipment and food/water for emergencies is: Making the Best of the Basics by Stevens.

We are about an hour south on MSP/STP on a small farm, if anyone is ever interested in a road trip/outing- let me know. almost done with our post carbon/pompeii oven- could test that out. Trying to figure out how to organize better in our local area and interested in hearing what you are planning.

Ditto on organizing

We (myself and ilyeana) are currently looking at joining other groups, any suggestions are welcome. Are there any groups (or individuals) in your local area that are on the same wavelength? What sort of groups would you be interested in? Survivalists, Permaculture, Politics, et al. I think we are going to attempt to stay out of politics for now. Focus on the basics, mostly knowledge - and whatever preparedness you can muster.

As for your own preparations; you already sound far beyond me. I've only barely toyed around with a Solar Oven. I've taken the sort of what-do-I-need-when-I-go-camping angle - it's all I know. I'd be fine with meeting at some point in the near future (this goes to anyone else listening).

Nice to hear from you.

hoping to figure out how to organize/unify

Just hoping to organize.. , starting a blog this week- but not a lot of technology lovers here ( http://mycannonfalls.wordpress.com/ ) . There are very motivated people here interested in politics, ecology and activism that are wonderful, wonderful people- however discussions get polarized and unproductive pretty fast on those topics if anyone outside the agreeing group chimes in. I have not met any survivalists around here- at least that I know of. (But I suppose aren't we all trying to survive)

I am hoping that food is a more universal entry point. Land stewardship's farm beginnings program is one way we are looking at to network with more permaculture folks and learn more. (we have bee hives, preservation poultry, herbs, native fruit and berries :all legal in cities of MSP/STP too. As far as I know- you can keep hens/females but not crowing roosters/males in MSP)

MISA and MOSES are also wonderful resources in MN for sustainable food networking. Marla Spivak at the U of MN has a fantastic beekeeper class that is known nationwide. Everyone in our town(many very right wing alike) seems to be able to agree and get behind revitalizing the local economy, energy independence and safe healthy food; ecology, religion and politics are tough though. So i guess being a chicken, I just avoid those areas.

A couple people in town have screened educational films and another is talking about trying this on a regular basis. Interests me, not sure how to start in that arena and still be inclusive. Anything you have tried that worked well?

May Twin Cities Energy Transition Working Group Meeting

1) Has a date been set for this group meeting?

I am the organizer for the Oil Awareness Meetup and would like to add your meetings to the site. I would also like to know what organizations and groups exist in the Twin Cities working on relocalization. We should have a website to promote these locally, in addition to places like this.

2) Also, there is a meeting next month through the NEC:

Next event

I hope there is some life left on here. If anybody cares I'll be at this locale next Tuesday (the ice cream shop mentioned above at the time mentioned above).

Have a nice day.

Future meetings

I am still around and willing to meet. Summer is kind of crazy, though--I imagine the same thing is going on with other people. I have to work late next Tuesday, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to show up for that meeting, but I hope that meetings can get started up again in August or September, and I am happy to help coordinate.

Meeting tomorrow

Since you are the only person to reply, I assume (atm) you are the only other person coming. In which case I'm open to pushing the meeting back later (I don't care) - Tuesday night until like 10 or 11pm is fine (when the meeting would end). So if a start time of 7, 8, or 9pm is acceptable, I'll come then.

I'm also open to Thursday, if that's doable.

ilyeana's picture

This week really isn't good, sorry

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I have to be on the other side of St. Paul till 9pm at least. Thursday is equally bad. And I'm going to be out of town for the two weeks following that. So I am not particularly available at the moment, but I would like to meet once I am back in town (after August 10th) if that is okay with you. Sorry to make this so complicated, but this week is just really hectic for me. =(

duffolonious's picture

That's fine.

How about the twelfth (Tuesday) of August? (at 6:30-7pm)

ilyeana's picture

I think that should work.

I think that should work. Let's say 7:00. Still at Sebastian Joe's?

duffolonious's picture

Yep, Sebastian Joe's, 7pm.

Yep, Sebastian Joe's, 7pm. See you then.

Meeting tonight?

Are we still meeting tonight?

duffolonious's picture

Good meeting

I think this was quite beneficial.

I'll be curious as to whatever info you have on Earthships, and any groups with our goals in mind. We can also setup another meeting for sometime in the future if that is alright with you.

Later...
