Hi there,
I was doing some searching and thought where the heck is a forum that concentrates on peak oil and the topics around that? And I found this for my local area. Not sure if anybody is out there, but give me a shout if anything develops. I realize this is a very broad subject to take on and plan for. I try and keep it simple as to what individuals can do in a city with less energy. I'm not optimistic that we have much time as a society to prepare. On a local level I'd like to see people with interest in these subjects trying to move closer to take over a block then neighborhood then city. It won't do much good if people are spaced miles apart and can't effect local government. That's a synopsis of what I think dense cities can do.

As far as what we discussed before, I'm fine with the location of the next event (Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream Cafe at the corner of Franklin and Hennepin). The time 6:30pm is fine, although it can be later.

As for what day, it doesn't matter to me.

As for local topics (this is my basic list):

Biking.
Gardening.
Equipment for an emergency (food, water, etc).
Power generation and conservation.

The simple joy of eating fresh, delicious, nutritious food is a great reason to buy local! If your last meal was typical, at least some of the food you ate traveled more than 1,500 miles to get from the farms that grew it to you. A lot of effort—and a lot of fossil fuel—went into the refrigerating, processing, packaging, and transporting of that food to make it taste fresh.

Going beyond freshness and flavor, buying locally grown food is an investment in the economic, social, and environmental well-being of your community. When you buy locally grown food, you put your consumer food dollars directly into the hands of the farmers who grew the food. When family farmers spend those dollars at local businesses, they create a “multiplier effect” that is good for their local economy.

The Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture has published a 30-page resource called Local Food: Where to Find It, How to Buy It <link>. This 30-page booklet was developed for consumers who are interested in supporting rural communities by buying locally grown food.

Gathering Interest for a Gathering

Interest levels are again on the rise! It's time to begin gathering names so that we can vitalize and shape the Minnesota Sustainability group.

We will have a meeting on Wednesday, March 19th, at 7:30PM until 8:30PM. Location is to be determined, so if you have a suggestion, great! Anyone interested is welcome to attend. The purpose of the meeting will be to do some collective brainstorming: We will explore our interests, concerns and goals, and begin to shape the future and direction of this group together. So this meeting is important for you to attend.

If you think you can make it, please drop an R.S.V.P. by reply, email or phone so we can plan for attendance.
