The Citizen's Coal Council

The Citizens Coal Council is a federation of 48 grassroots citizens groups and individuals who work for social and environmental justice.
The Citizens Coal Council and its members strive to:

  • Protect people, homes, water, communities, and the environment from coal mining damage.
  • Restore law and order by enforcing the federal Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act.
  • Help each other win our issues.

Please learn about the Jobs & Justice Campaign.

If you want to do something for coal mining communities today, help restore the rural environments that these folks live in.
If we can't stop this NOW - what will the planet be like when they get REALLY desperate for the stuff ??

Here's the objectives:

  • Fix the real problems. Increase the amount of money going to areas where the damage still exists.

  • No more dead fish in orange streams! Continue to fund projects to clean up acid mine drainage and improve water quality.

  • Give minimum program states enough to work with. Increase money to states with small programs (like Tennessee)
because they don't have enough funding to get work done now.

  • Maintain the United Mine Workers of America Combined Benefit Fund. AML interest also supports retired UMWA workers
  • whose companies went bankrupt or no longer exist.

  • Get this work done. Extend the program for at least 25 yearsâ€
