Goals and Ramblings

I emailed a 'Trip Report' to a friend of mine and posted it a peak oil discussion board.  The response of my friend and the people on the discussion board surprised me quite a bit.  In both cases others assumed I was joining the group out of altruism.  I'm not.  I just try and keep up with the world and act in my own intelligent self-interest.  As I have learned about our world and national energy situations, I found the magnitude of the problem WAY beyond my ability to solve on my own.  I want my family to live and live happily.  Brainstorming with others and lessening my ignorance of energy efficiency tricks will help me to get what I want.  Influencing my community to localize so we thrive better together will help me get what I want.  I find it baffling that others don't see it this way.

That you can find anyone to understand the situation that we're in is a testimony to the power of the Internet. Were it not for this medium of communication we would all learn of Peak Oil about half-way down the slide to oblivion. My own awakening has been slow and painful. This is not a path I would expect coddled Americans eager to pursue. As you say the magnitude of the problem is WAY to large for any individual to change. I am in this for my sons as I fear greatly for their future. I am in this for my extented family some of which are already concerned, the others are welcomed to join me on this journey. I am in this for my friends. I am in this for my community because only by relocalizing and learning to be interdependent do we have hope of building a new, sustainable culture for future generations. Let us build together my friend.
