The issues raised in your comment assume that you turn the control of gold over to the Government - what happens if you put it into the hands of the people? Fiat currency systems require exponential growth to service an illusion - there is no illusion with gold.You speak about the value of gold, the value of gold never changes, one ounce of gold at the turn of the 19th cen could buy you a good suit and today the same ounce will do the same! Stop thinking in terms of the buying power of today's currency systems - they have none - gold is only useful and represents wealth when it can be traded for what really matters - land, food, water and energy.It is indestructible, portable and relative to it's size represents large buying power - that is it's intrinsic worth - and it can't be cheated unless it substituted by promissory notes which are not subject to an independent audit. The purpose for introducing gold is that at present in the 'real' world, it is able to establish itself in competition to the current monetary systems. This makes it desirable and people will work for it and trade it - the rest is education, but you cannot educate those who never see the truth of the massive fraud of the current fiat sytem because they live in a created world the powers that be have created. We have to work with the ordinary working people and we have to provide practical solutions in out current reality. Most LETS have failed due to a 'green' mentality - what I mean by that is, most people are not interested in exchanging photocopied vouchers or tokens, some have even been bitten by doing a lot of work and the LETS have then failed, to be left with nothing for their hard work. Ordinary people will steer clear of any possible 'hippy' idea - it is usually unrealistic. They have to live in the economic climate we have - we can only educate them if we give them something which is worth (they would consider) as much as the pound in their pocket! This new currency will be interchangeable across other LETS if you move towns or countries and we also hope that local traders will also accept it for buying their goods on the high street. LETS need to grab ordinary people where they are. Having to pay a mortgage, feed their kids, go to work and be brain-washed by the system!!! It is no good starting from a lofty ideal only to have it collapse before it starts because not everyone is aware of global issues and some do not share our views for the future Gold is NOT an end - it is a brilliant beginning...
