Gardening and Possibilities

Gardening offers numerous opportunities to learn. Working with plants, seeds, soil and the elements a student/gardener may learn math, history, botany, biology and so much more. The possible skills and allied trades, such as arboriculture and horticulture offer an array of niches waiting for aspiring entrepreneurs to discover and fill.

The herbal industry is expanding. There are possibilities awaiting. Where do the herbs you use come from?

Something to ponder:

“We can choose to spend time with our children, to grow our food or support the local organic farmer, to ride a bicycle instead of taking the car, to not purchase products from industries that exploit people and cause environmental destruction. What we do with our time, our resources, our money, our energy is a reflection of our deepest values, whether we are conscious of them or not.”

Hemp

Some of my friends are sick and tired of hearing me cry "Hemp, Hemp and more Hemp". The whole of north america except for a few brave souls are not growing hemp. It is still illegal to grow it in the States and barely legal to sell the products of hemp. Here in Canada it is not illegal to grow, but it may as well be. Unless you have alot of land and a lot of money ( and a lot of patience for jumping through government hoops) you can be charged with growing marijuana if you grow hemp. Not fair and stupid would be the words I would use to describe the current policy. I have a blog on the go at http://myhemp.blogspot.com  that talks about this wonder-weed. When I can (if I can) sell my house and buy some land I would be willing to devote most of the land to hemp production and live in a big trailer if I have too. That is going to be about 5 years down the road, sooner if I come into some money. I believe in the potential of hemp. If the governments would get their head out of the sand( I was going to say something much worse), alot of our food, clothing and paper supplies would be made from hemp. A plant that has 50,000+ uses can not be all bad.

Don't wait to plant your hemp crop

One thing we must remember about hemp is that prohibition of hemp was brought about by corporate interests that have made huge profits by taking a critical raw material off the market. The Corporates ended the use of the hemp plant as a fuel, fiber, food, and pulp for good reason. Prohibition was one of the first dominos to fall in the demise of our Republic. Prohibition is one of the many reasons the small farmer has been removed from the economy as the most important element in the nations foundation. For the past century oil has replaced most applications that hemp traditionally provided to the economy. Oil is a commodity that can easily be controlled and owned by the corporates that have the most to gain by maintaining hemp and cannabis prohibition. I can only surmise that corporates will be the ones to end prohibition when there are few profits to be made from oil. When this happens you can be assured that large corporations will be the ones given authorization to grow this crop again. Just as happened during world war two when the Department of Agriculture instituted the "Hemp for Victory" campaign. The color of law will be changed to fatten profits once again. After a protracted economic disaster of proportions never seen from high oil prices. The corporates will benefit the most from the elimination of small producers that would profit from growing hemp now. Development of A American hemp industry now would be counter productive to the globalization and control of energy, drug, food, fiber, and pulp, industries. Domanation is the goal of corporates that refuse to relent control of the economy they have enjoyed and rely apon for their profits. The little guy may never get a chance to grow hemp if we wait too long. The only way the little guy will win is efforts like the Lakota tribe in South Dakota, And Woody Harrelson efforts to grow hemp in Kentucky. It's no wonder these people are attempting to regain economic prosperity that their forefathers enjoyed when they were able to grow hemp. We must begin to grow this crop today. We must assert our sovereignty and control of our future. We may not have the luxury of time to wait for the goverment to say it's OK to grow a God given plant of such utility. I look forward to growing hemp and building my home from hemp. Join us ! Even though April 20th has past it is still a great time to plant your crop today.

After the fall

After the collapse of the money system, there will be a time of chaos where you will see thousands of little people planting hemp and marjuana. Thanks for the Woody link.

Viable low-THC Hemp Seeds in US?

As I see it, I cannot even get seeds for hemp cultivation here in the US. Am I wrong? Also, I see that Sunn Hemp (Crotalaria juncea L.), unrelated to Cannabis, can be used as a green manure for grazing, farming, and gardening in tropical and sub-tropical areas. Does anyone have experience with that species? Jim Z.

Nutiva and Hemp

I've been following Nutiva and its efforts to legalize hemp as a foodsource in the US. Founder John Roulac has long been an advocate for sustainability supporting hemp cultivation, organics, and home composting. I use their hemp protein powder, and can't wait to try their organic hemp shakes! Cheers, Jim Z.

hemp shakes?

Hi Jim.

I have tried hemp coffee, hemp hearts (hulled hempseed), roasted hempseed and various food bars. Hemp shakes sound great. I was at the Women's Expo here in Chatham, Ontario and came across a booth of a person who made hemp bread and hemp cookies, with hemp butter to spread on top. I had my booth there for giving Massages and Tarot card readings, selling silver jewelry and bee's wax candles(with hemp wicks). I did not bring much food with me so I was mostly working off what I consumed at that booth. I had good energy all day and got a lot of clients. The stuff works!

Hemp

Hemp has enormous possibilities. It can provide food, housing material, even car parts. Small scale farmers could add hemp to their cash crops list.
