Our intention is to envision and build a viable local economy in the Mount Shasta region, centered in cooperative production of the essentials for life. We see the twin challenges of “peak oil” and global climate change as opportunities to reshape our communities, and establish meaningful relationships with our neighbors, based on shared work, interdependence, and responsibility for our own lives and the common good.
Current projects include: events and publications to raise public awareness; a community garden at Shastice Park, ready to go this spring; increasing energy efficiency of homes, businesses, and public buildings; bikeways in city and county; support for our Farmers' Market: and working with local government to consider these challenges in planning, improve bus service, and revise local ordinances to encourage greater energy-efficiency and use of natural materials in buildings. We encourage individuals and groups to bring projects to us for support and possible volunteers.
We now meet once a quarter with a speaker or special video to focus our discussions, sometimes following a potluck supper. Check this site for scheduled meetings. We have an ad hoc Steering Team that consists of whoever shows up at our Steering Team meetings, which occur as needs arise. We are a project of the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center.
To receive regular notices of our meetings and events, please join the Relocalization Network and specify APPLE-Shasta as your group; Or send your contact information to the site manager, Molly Brown; mollyybrown@gmail.com.
