Banning Plastic Bags -- Resources?

I'm trying to find some information about plastic bans both in the USA and abroad -- while I've found plenty of articles (and blogs that link to said articles), I haven't been able to find a resource that has cold, hard facts about where bags are banned, restricted, taxed, etc., and what the results have been, and the processes that led up to the restrictions, etc. So -- if anyone can post something along these lines, that would be just fantastic. Thanks so much!

The Climate Dialogues is a coalition of local and national groups led by the 2People.org citizen's network. Contact Phil Mitchell (phil [at] 2people.org) for information about getting your business or organization involved. The Dialogues have been formally endorsed by the Seattle City Council.

Climate Choices briefing: The Citizen's Climate Briefing (PDF) is a 12-page document that covers what every person needs to know about global warming. It has been carefully reviewed and approved by our science partners.

Endnotes: These endnotes document every factual assertion in the climate briefing. The notes are organized by the paragraph numbers in the briefing.
Facilitator's Guide: Tips for Facilitators
(PDF). This 5-page guide gives an introduction to holding a discussion (study) circle, and also explains how to respond to typical challenges that might arise. It comes from our partner, the Study Circles Resource Center, and is distributed by permission.

Our Mission Statement:

Seattle Peak Oil Awareness is a local citizens action network offering information and practical ideas for living in a time of reduced energy availability. Working in small, focused groups we advocate healthy, sustainable living choices for all interested residents in the Puget Sound region.

What we are working on now:

1) Outreach and education: We are presenting information about peak oil and relocalization at various sustainability forums and fairs in the greater Seattle area. Our next event is the Sustainable Ballard festival on October 1. Also, we have drafted a resolution for the City of Seattle to catalyze local government and public planning for peak oil. We intend to present this resolution to the City Council in the near future.

2) We are beginning to grapple with implementing “lifeboat” strategies and finding practical ways to build lifeboats.

We hold monthly meetings at 7 PM on the first Thursday of each month, in Room 6 (upstairs) at the Phinney Neighborhood Center (6532 Phinney Ave N, Seattle). Our next meeting will be on September 7.
