Celebrating Tragedy!

I notice that some people seem to be cheering for the downfall of national food distribution and the general infrastructure in the United States. I notice that some people cheer this because it means that the masses will be forced to change their lifestyle to a local, more sustainable structure. Which seems like a good idea to be cheering for at first.

But what would happen to millions of Americans if the infrastructure did indeed collapse? Well, masses of adults and children would suffer greatly and many would die due to scarce resources and violent competition for food.

Q: Are you someone who wishes that to happen just so people could become aligned with your thinking?

If so, I have another question for you; Is there a way you can still prepare for the worst, and authentically be ok with society not collapsing, and continuing on for many years in ignorance? If not, then try to explain to yourself how your hope for destruction is any different than the masses unhealthy consciousness that is creating that which you wish to change.

My point is that celebrating the demise and suffering of others to bring them around to your viewpoint is repeating the very unhealthy pattern you seek to change.

Can you challenge yourself?

(I am in no way am accusing anyone of this. Just asking questions.)

The Apocolyptic Outsiders View

Andrew,

The wishful thinking of the minority you're referring to are often referred to as Apocolyptic Outsiders. They tend to be the ones you invite to start their own groups rather than stick around and destroy the good energy for positive outcomes that the Relocalization groups are buidling.

I don't mind the Doomers too much, they keep us on our toes and prompt us to stick to the task and get it done.

I do think that a sudden crash would probably work better in getting attention and shaking people out of their dreamstates and get us working on this problem as a society.

However an oil shock and famine are two different animals, with one being far more real in its consequences.

The end of the green revolution is coming. As someone who comes from a rural background, getting that word out is proving a challenge, but on this continent of North America, we are not packed so close together that we can create the necessary food gardens to keep moving forward, I fear for far denser populated countries with far fewer resources, there we will see the famines that make 1985 look like a missed meal. I dread those days arrival.

I have had discussions with World Visions Agriculture Coordinator about this however, I don't think the ramifications of Peak Oil really sank in. That means we all have more work to do in getting the word out and understood.

keep the faith, we're all in this together,

Sudden Crash Not Required?

Wonderful words Lance.

To further ask questions, do you believe that our thoughts and what we think has a direct effect on reality? If not, then forget I asked.
If so, tell me what your thought as stated, "I do think that a sudden crash would probably work better in getting attention and shaking people out of their dreamstates and get us working on this problem as a society." is creating?

Do you see my point of question there?

And if there is a sudden crash, is there still a society to solve the immeadiate problem? Or has it become regional at that point?

What would be the most effictive way to get attention and shake people out of their dreamstates and get working on this problem as a society WITHOUT a sudden crash?

Q: What line of thinking can we enguage in that does not require a sudden crash of anykind to modivate people?

Asking these questions to myself, sharing them with you, not attacking anyone.

Andrew

PS. Apocolyptic Outsiders - Where are the studies to indicate this group as a minority? What are they Outside of? And who are the Insiders, and are they also a minority?
