Featured workshop:
Whole Systems – Architecture for Urban Interdependence
Taught by: Anita M. Burke
Until recently, Anita worked for Shell International as the advisor to the Shell International Committee of Managing Directors on the operationalisation of sustainable development and the energy portfolio implications of a carbon constrained future.
During her 18 years of working in all aspects of the upstream and downstream portions of the oil business, she has delivered profitable technologies and organizational processes that have delivered on the sustainable development and climate change strategic vision.
Her twenty years of change leadership within some of the world’s largest multinational energy companies helps to bring the horizon in the room and demystify the operational innovations that lead to profitable solutions and technological innovations that contribute to the manifestation of operational solutions to energy, technology, organizational evolution and social responsibility.
Anita is internationally recognized as a thought leader in the area of sustainable development. She has helped to co-create visionary strategies for the future and practical, tactical actions to deliver on our need to go beyond organic and disentangle us from the hydrocarbon energy system. She is practical and passionate about local living economies and the processes that will contribute to the evolution of our relationship with the planet and each other.
Workshop description:
The solutions and strategies for responding to and/or adapting to the results of climate change, peak oil and economic strain are nested in the understanding that this is an integrated system and therefore our solutions must be integrated. This is tough. Trying to think and communicate holonicly* is not something that we have been trained to do. This workshop will identify the techniques currently understood to facilitate whole systems understanding and solutions based in whole systems results. *Holonic systems evolve and self-organise over time to optimise survivability, adaptability, flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness.
(IMPORTANT: Registration for workshops closes 7 days before each workshop.)
