Resource Efficient, Compact Land Use Workshop (Carbondale)

Those interested in the land use/transportation side of oil issues, there is a workshop Sept 15 at Carbondale Town Hall on the benefits of transit oriented development and how to make it happen in more places in the valley. We have three national experts on TOD, and their talks will be followed by working groups that will discuss barriers to TOD and incentives, policy and zoning changes to encourage more compact/transit friendly land use throughout our valley. The workshop is part of a grant we received to encourage TOD served by high quality transit as one element of a lower-carbon future.

TOD was mentioned in the end of suburbia, but here's a short blurb about it:

TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT is a major solution to the serious and growing problems of peak oil and global warming by creating dense, walkable communities connected to a transit line that greatly reduce the need for driving and the burning of fossil fuels..."

We would be enormously grateful if you could forward the flyer (contact Alice for flyer) to anyone who might be interested in the land use/transportation aspect of oil dependency. People can register by visiting www.newcenturytrans.org.
Registration covers a packet of materials on TOD including model codes etc, lunch and refreshments.

Thank you so much,
Alice
