Yesterday, September 6, 2006 was a key day for relocalization efforts in Wimberley, as we were informed that our membership within the larger community called Relocalize.net was accepted. This puts Wimberley squarely in community with municipalities across the globe who are engaged in the all important process of "relocalizing." By identifying critical dependencies in local commerce, food production, energy availability and continuity of cultural resources and civic infrastructure, Post-Carbon Wimberley aims to set about reducing and eliminating these vulnerabilities. This endeavor will require broad-based participation among community residents, but this will be facilitated by the already strong movement toward creating peak-energy and climate change awareness in the area.
Wimberley is an eclectic community known for its abundance of creative individuals, professionals and innovators. By following the example of communities, such as Willits California, who have made more progress toward relocalization, it is hoped that we can rapidly catch up, and perhaps even create some innovations that will benefit the worldwide cause of relocalization.
Those interested in joining our efforts are urged to become members of Post-Carbon Wimberley as soon as possible. Post-Carbon Wimberley subscribes to the relocalize.net mission statement, and intends to be inclusive, and to facilitate the highest possible standards of community and democracy.
