Sustainable Lifestyles Symposium and Workshop 2007: Date change

We are beginning our planning for the second Sustainable Lifestyles event, to be held in August 2007. Sep 14 - 16 is the teach-in, Sep 17 - 18 is the workshop. Come for the weekend, come for the whole thing!
In 2007 we will make some changes in format. The weekend will be mostly content oriented. Then for those who can stay, we have a two day workshop filled with active learning and doing. You will want to attend these events if you:

* Are ready to take seriously, the issues of peak oil, climate upsets, pollution, and population overshoot.
* Have decided you need to start preparing for a different future.
* Believe "Business as usual" does not look good to you.
* Want to know what governments can and should be doing to prepare for a new energy regime.
* Believe the levees of technology will keep you safe.
* Want to start building your own lifeboats for your family and community.

No matter how you slice it, the planet will one day run out of cheap fossil fuels. Some say we’re already at the peak production rate, others say it’s a decade or two in the future. But even they say it’s a time of unprecedented change and humankind has no idea how it’s going to navigate the transition.

Even if we are not compelled by the forces of supply and demand, and unequal claims on resources, we may be persuaded by the immorality of living beyond our means, devastating the ecology and mortgaging the futures of our children. After all, in less than 150 years, the nations of the world have consumed about half of the known reserves of oil and natural gas, leaving precious little for future generations.

This event is hosted by Quakers at Camp NeeKauNis, Waubaushene ON Canada. It is a non-partisan, non-denominational event where body, mind, soul and spirit are recognized and celebrated. Want to learn more? Send an email to Ian@sustainablelifestyles.ca.
