Sustainable Redland

Description:

In March 2005 Hamish Wills, a local resident, hand delivered to hundreds of Redland households a letter asking if anyone else was concerned about climate change and CO2 emissions. As a result, a bunch of us got together in the Friends Meeting House on Hampton Road and agreed we could achieve more as a group than as individuals.

So far we have;

* established the regular Whiteladies Road Farmers Market
* made significant changes in our personal energy use relating to home, transport and shopping
* instituted regular meetings with speakers to learn more about problems and solutions
* agreed a constitution and set up a bank account with the Co-operative Bank
* publicised sustainability issues in Redland through leaflets to households, a stall at the May Fair, articles in local magazines and newsletters, and through local radio

All our work is achieved by people giving up their own time, and we have covered costs of printing and room hire from small donations. We now have a small grant from the Frances Wood Trust that has funded this website. We will be seeking further financial support from local businesses that are committed to sustainability.

We have a chair, secretary and treasurer. A growing number of people have been to our evening meetings, and have contacted us for information or helped with the Farmers Market. Basically anyone who wants to help reduce climate change is in effect a member of Sustainable Redland.

How to get involved:

Attending the meetings is the best way to meet the people involved and help with their projects. Sustainable Redland helps operate a farmers' market on Whiteladies road every month. Join their Yahoo mailing list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/susredland
