We showed the film End of Suburbia at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills on Friday, November 10, 2006, and had another successful outreach to the community.
This time we were able to interact with the audience after the movie.
We didn't have the time restrictions that we had at the library, and were able to both show the movie and have audience discussion after the movie. About 40 people attended, and we had a very lively and interesting discussion after the movie.
We had been concerned if the audience would be limited to members of the church, but it turned out to be a true community event.
Many of the audience were members of the church where the movie was shown, whom we were glad to see. The attendance of a substantial number of persons who were not church members, however, showed that we had reached the larger community. The audience participation extended at least an hour after the end of the movie, indicating the movie had its intended educational effect.
We hope that some of the attendees will stay with us as an organization. Time will tell.
