Why are car clubs good for the environment and communities?
Traffic is responsible for approximately half of all emissions in Europe - both CO2 and those nitrogen oxide gases collectively known as NOx are greatest in urban areas where traffic is heaviest. There are at present 31 million cars on the road in the UK. Despite Kyoto targets and a growing environmental awareness of the facts, the last decade actually saw a rise in traffic volume outweighing all the manufacturers' improvements in vehicle efficiency and a 20% net increase in traffic-resulting greenhouse gas emissions.

Research statistics show that each car club car on the road replaces the need for five to eight privately owned vehicles. Car club members tend to use cars responsibly, to think about the journeys they make and limit their car use, substituting public travel, walking and cycling as part of their life-style.
