I'm proposing this new list so we can offer suggestions on farming and local production of foods. How to grow your own. Helpfull web links. Location of local farmers selling on the side of the road. How to garden in small places. Soil upkeep. Seed keeping and exchange. Drying techniques. Virtually anything about personal and local food production. Exchanging ideas.

resources for seed saving
I've found another website for seeds and seedsaving: http://www.seedsavers.org/
Its an American organization so the sites previously posted may be better for buying actual seeds. This website has some excellent resource items though, that some of the other sites lacked. There are books available, seed saving kits and how to books, and more I think - I haven't fully explored it. Its worth a look I think.

locally adapted seeds
Better to buy from local seed houses. Or at least Canadian ones. Try:
Agrestal (Goodwood ON) www.agrestalseeds.ca
William Dam (Waterdown) www.damseeds.com (new web site coming in January)
Ecogenesis (Port Colborne) www.ecogenesis.ca
Florabunda (Indian River) http://www.florabundaseeds.com/
Terra Edibles (Peterborough area) www.terraedibles.ca
Circledance (Brussels ON) www.cdseeds.ca
Urban Harvest (TO business but seeds from Hawthorn Farm near Listowel) www.uharvest.ca

Get your seeds soon
I checked out www.fedcoseeds.com, they seem to have quite the selection. It will soon be time to get one's seeds and start them.
Also interesting in their catalog http://www.fedcoseeds.com/forms/sds29_cat.pdf they note:
"Seeds of Diversity Canada, PO Box 36, Station Q, Toronto, ON M4T 2L7,
Canada, (866) 509-7333, www.seeds.ca, is dedicated to the conservation, documentation
and use of plants with Canadian significance. Publishes Seeds of Diversity
Magazine plus a 1500-variety seed exchange directory. Annual membership $30"
Definitely worth checking out.
