Transition Town Asheville is a group of Western North Carolina residents working to facilitate a smooth, life-enriching transition from fossil fuel dependency to a clean, sustainable and thriving local economy. We recognize that fossil fuels are finite resources, and that the end of the Age of Oil is inevitable.
Dwindling reserves, climate change, and the instability of our over-centralized systems all create the possibility of major crises in the coming years.
We choose to approach this potentially volatile time as an opportunity to create a deeply fulfilling way of life, in Western North Carolina and the world. To do this, however, we must face these issues directly and creatively. By working together and harnessing our collective wisdom, caring and effort, we are finding real solutions to the increasingly complex challenges ahead.
The vision of Transition Town Asheville is twofold:
*To build a vibrant network of neighborhoods and communities in Asheville and the surrounding area.
*create a predominantly local economy, through education, outreach and organization.
