New Science and a Revolutionary Energy Breakthrough

New science is opening the way to fuel-free power and propulsion and a turnaround of Global Warming. Conventional wisdom suggests we will be dependent on oil, gas, coal and nuclear power for the foreseeable future. Alternative energy is thought to be limited to solar, wind, fuel-cells and biofuels, etc. However, a revolutionary family of energy conversion technologies has emerged that is likely to prove extremely important. This breakthrough requires no fuel and produces no pollution. It opens a path to cost competitive electric power, automotive, and later aerospace propulsion.

Scientists have long been aware that the earth is immersed in an extremely dense sea of energy, which permeates every nook and cranny of the universe. It is only recently that it was realized that this huge reservoir could be an available source of usable energy. With some notable exceptions, e.g. Paul Dirac, we have been, like fish, unaware of the ocean.

Science employs a variety of names to describe this new field: space energy, vacuum energy, dark energy, the quantum vacuum, and Zero Point Energy (ZPE). Until about twenty years ago, scientists did not consider it possible to tap for practical use.

Nikola Tesla, the genius who gave birth to alternating current, said: "Electric Power is everywhere present in unlimited quantities and can drive the world's machinery without the need for coal, oil or gas…".

The late Dr. Robert Forward, then a physicist at Hughes Aircraft Corporation, published a paper in Physical Review, in 1984, suggesting that ZPE could be tapped for the direct generation of electricity. Two years later the USAF sought proposals for the utilization of ZPE for power and propulsion in a Small Business Innovation Research solicitation. Since that time other physicists have published papers suggesting that there is nothing to preclude the conversion of ZPE as a source of energy for power and propulsion.

Aviation Week and Space Technology, in the March 1st, 2004 issue, published an article headlined: “Aviation Giants Eye Zero Point Energy. The following line reads: “Zero Point Energy emerges from the realm of science fiction, may be key to deep space travel. The article goes on to suggest that “ZPE power plants might result in Mach 4 fighters, quiet 1,200 seat hypersonic airliners that fly at 100 mile altitudes as far as 12,000 miles in about 70 minutes. The article reports that at least two major aerospace firms, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, are studying ZPE.

NASA data suggests that far more than 20 times the solar energy available, at the peak of a sunny day, can be extracted from the Zero Point Field per unit of surface area on earth – in excess of 20 kilowatts per square meter, around the clock, seven days per week.

Dr. Fabrizio Pinto, formerly a physicist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has obtained U.S. Patents entitled: “Method for Energy Extraction. He states: “ZPE is expected to exhibit infinite density and to be universally present, and might therefore be a limitless source of energy. His firm seeks to convert ZPE by means of the Casimir Force, a physical manifestation of ZPE discovered in 1947. Lucent’s Bell laboratories announced, in 2001, that it successfully harnessed the Casimir Force to operate a miniature teeter-totter useful in advanced computer chips.

ZPE can be extracted magnetically. Nobel physicist Werner Heisenberg is quoted as stating that we “could utilize magnetism as an energy source. Hans Coler, a German inventor supported by Hitler’s Navy, according to a long since declassified British Intelligence Report that has been posted on the web, succeeded in building a working 6 kilowatt, solid-state, magnetic "space energy receiver. This remarkable generator was destroyed by an Allied bomb in 1945. At the time, there was no comprehension as to the source of the energy. Coler wrote: “These fundamental researches…have made the first real and large breach in the citadel of present scientific belief.

Cycclone Magnetic Engines, Remat Inc., and Perendev Power, all claim viable magnetic motors, the last two driving 40 kW and 20 kW alternators respectively. Remat states output exceeds input by at least 140%. The Cycclone and Perendev motors require no input. All three devices raise many questions. ZPE may prove to be the energy source.

Prototype Zero Point Energy extraction devices have been constructed in numerous laboratories, throughout the world, during the past two decades. Our own firm, Magnetic Power Inc. has a team of outstanding engineers developing pre-commercial rotary and solid-state systems. One kilowatt Magnetic Power Modulesâ„¢ are expected to be in production next year by one or more Strategic Partners, aimed at the market for homes and portable generators. Modules can be combined to increase output in a manner analogous to solar cells. Automotive power systems will start by ending the need for a plug-in hybrid to plug-in. Larger models will replace engines. Megawatt modules can be used in power plants. Battery replacements will power laptop computers. Demonstration devices and toys are being developed to illustrate the feasibility of practical designs.

Although still not widely known, increasing numbers of scientists and engineers are working with this truly revolutionary energy technology. This fact heralds the beginning of a profound transition, leading beyond dependence on oil, gas, coal, uranium, and other fuels. Great numbers of new jobs will emerge, as will a major stimulus to the world economy. Energy independence is likely to be realized by all countries, large and small, rich and poor. Reversing air pollution, and slowing of global warming, is inherent in the achievement. To the surprise of many, this is likely to be a near-term event.

Fusion

ZPE bring it on. Fusion has been a promise for over 20 years now. So far, nada. Limitless energy could solve many problems. It may be THE answer. However, seeing is believing. Where are the commercial applications? Vacuum powered perpetual motion is one heck of a claim. I have read about ZPE and even discussed it briefly in a physics chat room (they were very polite). If ZPE is harnessable then Peak Oil is almost moot if the devices can be manufactured quickly enough.

Commercial Products Next Year

If you read the Attachment, it explains why commercial applications are expected to be surprisingly rapid. One of our solid-state systems is likely to be capable of modifying utility type transformers and turning them into generators at eventually 50% of their previous output rating. These allow off-the-shelf hardware to have an electronics package added along with some other changes. 1 kW generators of this type are in a prototype development program and our Strategic Partner plans to modify and assemble the first units before the end of next year. Anyone with science or engineering background will need to see working desktop Demonstration Devices. These are also being prototyped and should also be available by the end of 2006. Toys will fall out this aspect of our work and are likely to have youngsters explain to their parents how they function. ZPE is converted in these systems. So they are not perpetual motion machines. However, as they reach the market they might cause what will seem for awhile to be a perpetual commotion :). Larger generators of other designs will follow. Within two years we hope to replace a hybrid automobile engine. In three years Megawatt Modules could be ready for production. All this assumes more private support is forthcoming from Angel investors who can afford the high risk. A few more Angels should bridge our program into high gear.

ZPE: Uh Huh... Send Money You Say?

Bogus. Bogus. Bogus. Public fundraising pitches for 'soon-to-be-demonstrated' ZPE devices are just another scam to part the fearful and/or greedy from their money. The onus is clearly on ZPE proponents to demonstrate ZPE technology under replicable and verifiable conditions... BEFORE pitching for funds from gullible 'investors'.

ZPE investors in MPI have a hedge. See: www.ultraconductors.com

ZPE seems to be the only tecnology that offers hope of a near-term alternative to oil, gas, coal, and nuclear power. Accelerating this development is possible, but only with additional investment by Accredited Angels. Accredited usually means a minimum net worth of $1 million. Angel investors in technology are expected to perform sufficient Due Diligence to satistfy themselves and their advisors that the high risk is justified. MPI still owns 51% of a subsidiary, Room Temperature Superconductors Inc. (RTS). RTS has completed four Small Business Innovation Research contracts with the government. All investors in MPI therefore automatically hedge their participation with well proven, and equally revolutionary, technology. See the website: www.ultraconductors.com for substantial additional information.

Show me.

ZPE. Cold Fusion. Ultraconductors. Unlimited free energy, with no pollution. And so on... "Tell me about the rabbits, George" (as the loveable dimwit Lennie says to his daydreaming keeper George in Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men.") All I can say is "show me." Let's see a peer-reviewed, repeatable demonstration that such technologies, without hidden inputs, actually work--that the Second Law of Thermodynamics has indeed been overcome, and that unlimited, free, usable energy is at our fingertips. But I won't hold my breath. I know a scam when I see one, and giving an imaginary technology an acronym (ZPE, MPI, RTS, etc.) doesn't make it any more real. Don't be fooled, people. There is no endless-growth, cheap-energy consumer utopia right around the corner. Only economic hard times, difficult policy decisions and tradeoffs, learning to cooperate with our neighbors, learning to grow and trade our own organic vegetables, and making do with much less stuff. Let us live simply, so others--and we ourselves as well--can simply live. We may then discover that eating freshly grown organic food (for which we have planned creatively and worked hard) and developing collaborative mutual-support networks and friendships with all our neighbors is not that bad after all. ZPE DIPPI DO!

'Overtone' should rethink his handle. Perhaps "Undertow" would suit him better. The current is counterproductive here. Anyone who can't come up to the mic with a real name forfeits all credibility right out of the gate. Go someplace else and slobber all over your self. Let's cast the babble of not violating the known laws of physics aside for a moment, and say there is a mother load of viable energy from the void to be had. Does any a-hole think for one moment that the corporate gang-bangers and the Bilderbergers who hand them their marching orders would let that genie out of the bottle without a well coordinated mechanism firmly in place to keep us all in abject thrawldom to the prime directive of the fetishistic pursuit??? Why don't you focus on perfecting our return to the ageless beauty of indiginous low techâ€

Two Billion People Live in Abject Poverty Today

The need for revolutionary, renewable energy systems goes far beyond the problems of our comfortable first world societies. Voluntary simplicity can be our choice, but for much of the planet, living on about $1/day, the problems have been serious for a long time. Thousands of children die every hour for lack of clean water and nutrition. Nobody has to believe anything about these new systems until they have the opportunity to test them themselves. That will begin to happen with the production of Demonstration Devices, and later toys, by the end of next year. A couple of bicycle mechanics launched the world of aviation in 1903 without the benefit of peer reviewed demonstrations. Most scientists refused to believe heavier than air flight had been achieved until Teddy Roosevelt appointed someone to investigate in 1908. The sky is only falling for people who refuse to recognize the reality of human potential to create better alternatives.
Tom Ellis's picture

human potential?

Don't get me wrong. I am a firm believer in human potential. If I were not, I would not be, as I am, an enthusiastic supporter of Post Carbon Institute. I firmly believe that human beings have the potential to create a sustainable, community-based, creative, networked, ecologically responsible, and technologically skillful and appropriate culture in a world that no longer has abundant supplies of energetically cheap, easily transportable petroleum. What I do not believe, and will not believe until I see very convincing, repeatable evidence of it, is that the Second Law of Thermodynamics can ever be reversed--that electricity can flow uphill, as it were, from more diffuse forms (e.g. ambient static electricity) to more concentrated and usable forms, without an external driver, itself consuming more energy than it yields. Electricity, like hydrogen, is an energy carrier, not an energy source. That is, you can convert OTHER kinds of net energy--from hydrocarbons, nuclear power, water, wind, and solar power-- into electricity, but always at an energetic cost, sometimes up to 50%. But you can't simply start with ambient electromagnetism and magically, (without initial energy expenditure far in excess of what you get in return) convert it into a usable electrical current. That's science fiction. I may be wrong--that's always a possibility--but if I am, all the physics books on the planet will have to be scrapped, and rewritten from the start. I prefer to deal with reality, rather than extravagant fantasies. The Wright brothers were, as you indicate, geniuses, but nothing they accomplished ever violated the laws of physics, even as they were known at that time. (In fact, their thorough knowledge of basic physics enabled them to achieve their aeronautical breakthrough). And their technological achievement WAS peer reviewed, through demonstrations in America and Europe alike, shortly after their historic flight in 1903. Thomas I. Ellis

The laws of physics are not violated by converting ZPE

ZPE, as the Aviation Week article March 1st 2004 stated, is not science fiction. It is a huge, untapped, energy resource. Physical Review, perhaps the most prestigious refereed journal in the physical sciences, has published a number of papers since the late Dr. Robert Forward, then a physicist at Hughes Aircraft, suggested in 1984 that ZPE could be utilized as a source of practical power. That point of view has been supported by other scientists. Moreover, practical technology is being pursued by a number of companies in several countries. New science is emerging that offers paths to inexpensive energy. If you care to see why it does not violate the laws of thermodynamics, look at the U.S. Patents recently issued to Dr. Fabrizio Pinto, a physicist who left JPL to form Interstellar Technologies. Or look at that company's website. He gives a clear explanation of energy conversion of ZPE based on the Casimir Force. There are other approaches being explored as well.
