“Permaculture Options for Oil Transitions" is the topic for our next meeting on March 11. Members of the Orenco Urban Farm in Hillsboro and Tryon Farms in Portland will be presenting the basics of permaculture and how permaculture can offer some solutions to upcoming transitions from dependence on oil. The concepts can be applied to single family homes (example: Orenco Urban Farm) or community-supported properties (example: Tryon Farms). This presentation will focus on food production, energy security, and countywide potential to grow food. Food prices are expected to escalate sharply as oil prices continue to increase, and food scarcity is expected to be a serious issue in the not-too-distant future. D Laine Young, one of our own members and owner of the Orenco Urban Farm, is one of the speakers.
