Sunshine Coast recognised as a Transition Town

Body:

NEWS FLASH...

The Sunshine Coast Energy Action Centre received official notice today that the Sunshine Coast has been recognised internationally as a 'transition town' by the UK Transition Town Network.

Through SEAC, the Time for an Oil Change course, the Energy Descent Action Plan, plus all the long-term, well-established, and strong links, networks, education programs and key partnerships in the region, we are officially now the first Transition Town (or rather region) outside the UK and the first in Australia.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped get us this far and out into the international spotlight. The website [www.seac.net.au] has proved instrumental in all this and we've had almost 80,000 hits in just three months.

The Transition Town Network was created by Rob Hopkins (who created the world's first Energy Descent Action Plan in Ireland with his students) and Ben Brangwyn. They have now joined forces to create the Transition Town Network supporting communities around the world to prepare effectively for peak oil and to work toward real grassroots solutions to climate change mitigation. They approached SEAC last weekend to
formally join their network and we've achieved a couple of 'firsts' in the process too.

This is a great opportunity for the Sunshine Coast 'collective' to become world leaders in climate change & peak oil preparation by partnering key stakeholders, council, education, and the community all together.
SEAC is receiving inquiries from around the world and there is a lot of interest in what is happening right
here. And so much more work to do, this is just the beginning...
