SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party

Buy Second Hand First! From 7am on Saturday December 15, Bundaberg's smart shoppers can get some great bargains and support a worthy cause while socialising and enjoying a light breakfast to the festive sounds of Christmas music at the SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party!

This isn't your average garage sale. Several members of SustainaBundy, a community group working for a sustainable Bundaberg, are getting together to offer up a huge selection of their furniture, clothes and household items for sale to the general public. Breakfast of tea or coffee and baked goods will be available for a $2 donation. SustainaBundy's vice president Andi Hazelwood said, "The purpose of the SustainaBundy Garage Sale Party is to promote the idea of buying second hand first - you get a better deal, but you're also extending the life of stuff that might otherwise go to the landfill and you're cutting out a lot of packaging waste. Buying second hand first is one of the most environmentally responsible things you can do."

"We plan to hold these Garage Sale Parties regularly, but having our first one at Christmas time is an extra reason to get together and have some fun!" Hazelwood said.

All donations from the day will go to SustainaBundy's future projects, including the upcoming 2008 SustainaBundy Directory and Guide: how to live a GREENER life in and around Bundaberg, which is due to be published in February.

The SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party will be held at 144 Barolin Street on 15th December, look for the sign north of Maynard Street.

re: SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party

In addition to being printed in the Bugle two weeks ago, information about this weekend's SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party has made it onto the council calendar, Bundaberg Region Tourism's website (and reprinted through Queensland Holidays) and into the latest OUR BUNDY E-Newsletter! Thanks to everyone helping to promote Buying Second Hand First!

Our "to sell" pile is growing. The music is ready to play. Our SustainaBundy Christmas tree was sourced from a friend who is clearing out the pine trees growing on his property and replacing them with natives. shine_on tells me she's been making star decorations for the tree out of old broken CDs - I'm going to make some paper chain garland with the comics out of a few newspapers and good ol' flour paste (haven't seen that stuff since.... kindergarten?!) Dean is making a sandwich board sign to put in front of the house on Barolin Street (we decided against balloons, instead going for a sign that can be reused at all of our future garage sale parties - but we'll paint balloons on it!) Carol's bringing the watermelon!

Don't forget, paid SustainaBundy members are welcome to bring their second hand items to sell, with membership payable at the gate - if you're planning on becoming a member and selling on Saturday, please RSVP by tomorrow (Wednesday!) so we know to expect you! Call 4196 0043 or email me to RSVP!

Re: SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party

Hi Andi and Dean and Jacqui,

Is it ok is I take the info re the garage sale to the WPSQ and Landcare meetings, or alternatively if you could email info about up coming events to both Maureen and Ann if could be sent out via the email tree of those organisations.

Can I use the events page on a regular basis to advertise the meeting dates etc, is it cleared after the event?

I have done the usual trick of a busy person doing too many things at once, and made an account on the sustainabundy page, but didn't keep a record of my log in details. I have requested a new password so hope that sorts me out!!

ps, just sent the carer list to Jacqui.

Keep up the exciting work.
Regards
Sue Johnston

Re: SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party

Hi Sue, thanks for the message. Please note if you reply to any email with [sustainabundy] in the subject, it gets sent to the entire mailing list and posted on the website! I'm sending this to the entire list for everyone's information. Unfortunately we had a bit of a misfire with the email notification about the tomato picking - members, you can read the tomato post here.

Ann is on this mailing list and will be able to forward the information about the SustainaBundy Garage Sale Christmas Breakfast Party on to her email tree if she sees fit to do so, and I'll pass the info on to Maureen as well. Please note that you must be a paid SustainaBundy member in order to sell at the garage sale, but anyone is welcome to come on the day as a buyer and supporter!

Any appropriate events (environmental, etc) are welcomed for inclusion on the SustainaBundy calendar - it is important to us to act as a "hub" and networking site for all of the environmentally responsible groups in the region. Events are listed in two places: the list of all events past, present and future is online here. The list of just upcoming events is here. (Note that because this site is on US time, some events that have actually passed for us are still listed as upcoming).

Thanks Sue for your support and hope to see you soon!
