Waste Management Photo Tour
Bundaberg is exceedingly lucky to have James Stanfield. He is the Bundaberg city council waste management officer, and he is passionate and downright cheerful about managing the mind-boggling volume of stuff we reject from our households every day without a second thought. Stanfield may be the single most environmentally responsible person in our region!
Managing Waste: There's No Such Thing As Away in two parts on YouTube:
James gives practical tips on what can and can't be recycled in our region, and how best to do it!
James talks about green waste and business waste.
The Challenges of Local Food
Executive Chef Nic Heenan-Jalil from H2O Bar and Bistro at the Burnett Riverside Motel in Bundaberg explains the challenges of providing fresh local food to his clientele.
Dean has now posted the first two segments of Tom Wyatt's entertaining organic gardening presentation to SustainaBundy's YouTube page. Stay tuned, plenty more to come!
This first video is Tom Wyatt talking about Your Lawn & Pee!
In this second video - which is actually the beginning of his talk - Tom discusses all the reasons we should not kill bugs in the garden. They all have their jobs to do.
(Sorry about the lighting, later in the presentation we moved the video camera and it was much better - other segments will be better!)

Rainwater tanks for water harvesting and storage are one of the wisest uses of energy and resources - and Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia makes tanks of all types, shapes and sizes! Jacques Rohen is the former owner of Bundaberg's Complas Industries (now Nylex), the first company to make large rotational molded polyethelene rainwater storage tanks on the east coast of Australia. In this interview with Andi Hazelwood from SustainaBundy, Jacques discusses the benefits of harvesting and storing rainwater in tanks, the misconceptions, advantages and disadvantages of various types of tanks, as well as the embodied energy of poly tanks and their potential for being recycled. Jacques and Andi wrap up the interview with ideas on making the most of the water we harvest and some simple water conservation tips.
