Urban Agriculture and Local Produce Marketing

David Mason, from NSW DPI, undertook a Churchill Fellowship study tour of many different urban agriculture systems in Singapore, the Netherlands, England, Canada and the USA. David found that many urban fringe farmers sold most of their produce directly to the consumer including via community supported agriculture and pick-your-own schemes. For the past 15 years he has been working to establish the strategic role and place for sustainable agriculture in the Sydney Region especially with Hawkesbury Harvest and the protection of agricultural land.
