On the Last Friday in July
We meet up at 5:30 pm at The Grove.
Route to be determined.
Ending at a pub or eatery to be determined.
Organized and coincidental enough that I feel safe trailing my most precious cargo.
Wigs, witty signs, and goodwill abound.
Interested?

Boise Critical Mass in a sustainable way?
Here is an interesting short movie about SHIFT - a Portland community cycling network whose members apparently get together nearly every month to use their bikes to help a person move. They move boxes, chairs, computer, other bikes - even the sofa!.

Would be a great way to show Boise the sustainable benefits of bikes plus a great get-together!

Bike Moves
Thanks, Scott, for sharing that site. It made me laugh and smile. My sister, Patty, and her husband just moved from Houston to Seattle last weekend, and they needed two trucks to haul all their stuff. So I think I will send that site to her and tell her after living in Seattle for awhile and after she downsizes some more, she might be able to make a bike move!

A Girlz dream come true.
Thanks to all the fab and fun riders for that trippy Tour Dee Boisee. Thanks especially to Josh and Justin for their successful efforts in getting the word out and for keeping an extra eye out for my ice cream loving cargo. I've never felt so free and safe biking her through Boise.
Here's to what's possible and here's to next month's ride! Cheers!
Oh, and I'll put in another plug for the Ada County Highway Commission meeting coming up. This event could really increase the bikeablity of our locale - but it's likely that the extent of the changes is directly proportional to the turnout at the meeting. Here are some details:
It's Thursday, August 9th - 4:30-7:30. Covenant Presbyterian Church at 4848 N. Five Mile Road.
Here's a map.
Here's a link
We're going to try to bike the fam out to this event to show our support. We hope you'll be there and try to get the word out, too.

Lookee here!
A map! Buried treasure?! Aaargh, matey! Me thinks we should sail the Seas of Cardom with our mighty motorless contraptions and free ourselves from Petrol Doom! Gangway, ye lilly-livered landlubber!
Who be with me?! If nay, I'll devour yer parrot ye grog-snarfing swabbie! To the poop deck!

We are there!
This is so exciting! Looking forward to it. Jay and I will drag down our Burningman duffle bag of costumes, wigs, pirate gear and MORE! We will tote extra stuff in the "cycle that hauls" for anyone that may need a little extra flare!
The filming is covered! We have a good friend and a fellow artist that communtes by bike and films constantly from his bike. He would be super fun to have along as well!
See you there!

I emailed the guy who posted
I emailed the guy who posted the "downtown bicycle takeover" ad on craigslist to see what the outcome was. He said about 35 people rode and overall it was a success. The police ended up disbanding them because nobody had lights on their bicycles. Do you think we should put an ad on craigslist as well as flyers advertising the event to get more riders? (my goal is 100 riders) Also I was wondering about a revised start time, maybe 7pm? I think it would give more people time after work to get to the park.
I'm pretty excited about this!!

I'm psyched, too.
I'm psyched, too.
Typically critical masses convene at 5:30 and start at 6 - I think in an effort to catch people on their way home/getting off work. We can make our own rulz. I'm quite confident Boise will still have traffic at 7. So 7 it is! Let's meet up at 6:30 though so we can get organized.
100 riders would be awesome!
If you can xerox some 1/4-sheet or so fliers with map and vital info that'd be awesome. I was thinking of bringing a bunch to the Flicks GLobal Warming forum event coming up and just handing them out. Getting them posted at coffeeshops and bike shops would be great, too. We'll also want to have some to hand out to folks just before and during the ride. If you end up getting some out there, let me know what places you hit so we don't duplicate.
Also, here's a shout-out asking for someone to film the ride. Anyone feel coordinated enough to film and ride at the same time?
Kevin's now sporting a pirate flag on the extracycle. (Pretty fitting, eh? considering how he swiped it out from under Josh) I think Toren and I are planning to wear respirators. Gotta get something whipped up. BTW- The Sarsens are Compacting! Yay! (So Yes, this is a request to borrow a respirator, in case anyone happens to have one. LMK!)

I'm excited
If there are enough of us, there will be no room for gas guzzlers to honk and zoom around us spewing carcinogenic plumes of junk into the air that we have to breathe. I think it is about time roads are shut down for bikes instead of the construction of an unsustainable future.
